The United States doesn't only have to wrestle with economic and political issues. At the classroom level, all is not right either. Teachers at a tiny Texas country school packed a gun along with their lesson plans when classes started this term. The isolated, 110-student school near the border with Oklahoma is thought to be the first in the US to allow guns in the classroom. ... [Agence France Presse, via gunpolicy.org ]

i woulsn't teach hs these days without a handgun. i think that as long as the teacher is a liscensed permit holder and the gun must either stay locked up in the desk, in a lockable handgun case or it is on the teachers person at all times, then it should be ok. i know i'd be ok if one of my kids teachers carried as long as they were liscensed to and they never let it come off their body and it stayed in concealed.

I do agree here but would rather that the teacher stay armed rather than leaving it unattended in a safe or lockbox with all those sharp minds around.

the problem is, not everyone can handle carrying a gun around all day and feel the need to take it off. so in that case, that's where a bolted down, inside the desk lock box with a fingerprint scanner comes into play.

I see where you are coming from, but dont see why they should have arms in the classroom if those arms are not under direct control. If the worst were to occur they may not have the time to dash over to the safe/combo drawer in order to act. Not to mention the human element of forgetting it in the safe/drawer.

If we are trusting them in the additional role of protection they should be fully capable just as others in society that we rely on for 'protection' and be ready at a moments notice.

theres definately a problem with it. i think they should have it on them at all times as well. we just know that the sheeple often make unwise decisions when making rules and regulations. esp when it comes to a firearm

See, this is why it's great to come late to a conversation. All my points have been made for me. I was gonna say something about how there are a lot of teachers that just don't seem nearly competant enough to not be scary with a gun, but those types of people generally are the ones who don't want to carry a gun. Neat how that works out.

Lets just be honest here, if old school nuns were able to teach in classes as they did back in the day this would be a non issue. They didn't need guns, just a yardstick and a glare (that stunned at 50 paces).
