I recently purchased the pictured SOG Seal Pup knife used in this review. I'll say right out that I really like this knife. The Pup features a 4.85 inch blade with an overall length of 9.5 inches. The knife is also a full tang design, which I really like for the added strength of the overall knife.

The blade itself is made with AUS 6 steel. That's a Japanese stainless steel which offers a nice blend of toughness, edge holding capability, and corrosion resistance. I've shaved with the Pup the every morning since I got it, cut through all kinds of things and it's not lost a bit of it's edge. I've thrown it, cut through electrical wiring, rope and even dropped it off a 20 foot high deck 3 times. So far there hasn't been any damage to the blade or the grip for that matter. There are serrations along about 1/3 of the blade.

The grip is made out of Zytel. Zytel is a DuPont creation used in all kinds of high strength, abrasion and impact resistant applications. It's got a pattern that really digs in to the hand (not in a painful way) when the Pup is being put to work. It's not going to slip out of your hand easily.

The sheath is made out of nylon, with a hard insert for the blade. I'm not sure what the insert is made of. The pouch on the front of the sheath will house a 7 round 1911 magazone perfectly. That is a major advantage for me, and it's one I use. The sheath also has 4 loops on the back and 8 stainless steel eyelets for a variety of wearing options. I've worn it horizontally on my belt, vertically and even on my ankle under my pants. I've not tried to wear it upside down yet, obviously you can wear it upside down, I just have nothing to wear it upside down on. The last picture is how I currently wear it on my calf right above my ankle. I purchased 2 leather straps with buckles at a local farm store and had to punch a couple extra holes so it could adjust them as needed.

Overall, I am VERY pleased with the Seal Pup. It looks to be promising knife that I'm going to put to work for quite awhile. I purchased mine at Dick's Sporting Goods. The knife is also available on their web-site for the about $55. Well worth the money.

Have you handled anything in the Benchmade Nimravus line? If so, how does the Seal Pup compare?

Great review! I absolutely love my SOG Seal Pup...Dicks Sporting Goods must have a deal with SOG, as we carry quite a selection and the prices are really decent. I wish SOG offered an OD nylon sheath and that is my only complaint. If you're into multi-tools, there are few, (if any) better in my opinion...
