View Full Version : Stupid moments confession thread
I recently had a moment of brilliance so sublime, so awe-inspiring, that it deserves mention here. It had to do with my recent purchase of an air compressor. Dutifully following instructions, I broke in the motor and then let the compressor charge up to full pressure. After hitting things with compressed air until the garage was full of dust and the novelty had worn off, I deactivated the unit and drained the tank per instructions. This was where I ran into trouble that sent me to the manual and had me cursing the poorly-calibrated gauges on the unit. You see, no matter how long I left the drain valve open, the pressure wouldn't drop below 14.7 PSI! It wasn't until I wondered out loud why the gauge refused to show 0 PSI that illumination dawned.
Duh.
Please help me feel not so alone in my foolishness by sharing your own brilliant moments.

I've got nothing on that one...well nothing I would admit. But that experience seems to be my daily life. I do have one I am willing to share via pictorial.
I was hell bent on saving money one year and decided to do my own brakes. Prior to doing so I decided to rotate my tires. The master plan (note the two prophetic words: master plan) was to do my brakes and then my wifes brakes.

You cant really see it from the angles, but basically I placed the jack in the wrong spot, placed the stands kind of on the wrong spot and wound up dropping the truck. The red press in the pictures is my neighbor who came over and decided to help me after hearing me swear for 10 solid minutes.
The last picture in the series that I am not sharing is the one of my wife standing on the stairs with the deadly smirk that indicated the infamous four words that no man wants to hear. :(
Brakes on both vehicles cost me just under 700 that year btw at a local shop.
I am also no longer allowed to work on her car.

Clinotus, you get mantown demerits for that one. Although I have to admit, I am still not sure where the proper jack points are for my tractor, though I could make do in a pinch.
I did something stupid recently however. I was trying to put the grease tube in backwards into a grease gun for the aforementioned tractor. The arrows were right there in front of my face but I never saw them. :bash:

Hi Guys !
Recently while waiting in an airport terminal a group of us were watching the news about the separation of conjoined twins.
One of the airport staff came over and asked if the twins had been separated, when we replied that they had been she asked, "Both of them?"
Thanks.
