View Full Version : Post horrifying gun photos
There are too many pictures in here of nice-looking firearms, so let's fix that.

Here is a contender: The Liberator Pistol.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a80/Caspian17/Liberator.jpg
The FP-45 was a crude, single-shot pistol designed to be cheaply and quickly mass produced. The Liberator had just 23 largely stamped and turned steel parts that were cheap and easy to manufacture. It fired a .45 caliber pistol cartridge from an unrifled barrel. Due to the unrifled barrel, maximum effective range was only about 25 feet (less than 8 m). At longer range, the bullet would begin to tumble and stray off course. Because of the low quality, it was nicknamed the "Woolworth gun."
The Liberator was shipped in a cardboard box with 10 rounds of .45 ACP ammunition, a wooden dowel to remove the empty cartridge case, and an instruction sheet in comic strip form showing how to load and fire the weapon. Extra rounds of ammunition could be stored in the pistol grip.
After production, the Army turned the Liberators over to the OSS. A crude and clumsy weapon, the Liberator was never intended for front line service. It was originally intended as an insurgency weapon to be mass dropped behind enemy lines to resistance fighters in occupied territory. A resistance fighter was to recover the weapon, sneak up on an Axis occupier, kill or incapacitate him, and retrieve his weapons.

This is amazing as:
1) Its a Hi-Point.
2) Its still a Hi-Point.
3) The grip alone...
4) The 'Bedazzler' effect with the soldering iron is probably Morse-Code for 'Look away for I am hideous'.
5) Bragging about the bedazzled Hi-Point

I've seen those before and knew a little bit about the history, but your post had that plus the intended purpose. Great information.

How about this abortion of an SKS...

I love the meaningless side rail just to add a rail cover. What about the reflex sight right behind the AR-15 carry handle making the already worthless stand alone rear sight on the handle that isn't intended for this weapon all the more pointless while simultaneously rearing the reflex sight unuseable? At least they took off the bayonet....don't want any unneeded weight...
All this thing needs now is trapper keeper stickers and a chrome 24" badge on the side.

At least the Liberator was used to fight Nazis, and then only to function as a means to acquire an "upgrade." I think Hi-Points are actually intended to be used, although their design puts that in question.
That said, when I want to shoot .45 ACP, "stamped metal pistol made for fifty cents" sure isn't the thing that comes to mind.

That rear sight base is messing with my mind. Is that a sheet metal box riveted to the receiver?

RE: liberators -
The liberator was never actually used in its intended role. The OSS never dropped them over Europe. I've seen claims that a few were dropped into the Philippines and China, but I've never actually seen substantial evidence for or against that - it always ends up being an endless maze of articles on the internet referencing each other as a "source" without actually showing any real proof or evidence.

The fact that it wasn't dropped over France explains why the instructions contain no diagrams on how not to surrender while using it.
