A few weeks ago a gentleman from IRC told me that he had a Khalan KW-15 (AR-15) lower that was loaded with issues that he wanted out of his life. I offered him $25 to have it sent to my favorite FFL and promised that I would build it into a fun project if I could get it to work, or I'd shoot it if I couldn't get it built into something that went bang. At the time I didn't have much of a plan but I figured for the price even shooting it would be pretty fun.

A few days after I got the lower another guy popped up and said he had a Bushmaster post ban 16" carbine upper that had a stuck case in the chamber and the muzzle crown beaten in with a hammer. He sent me photos and after a bit of haggling and negotiation I managed to get the upper sans charging handle and bolt carrier group for a song and the promise that I would do something with it. He shipped the upper and it should be here today.
In the mean time, I've taken the liberty of installing a DPMS LPK, a six-position commercial receiver extension, and a CAA buttstock. The lower itself seems to be finished with spray paint since the finish scratches extra easy, the safety detent channel was incorrectly drilled, the safety pin hole was way too tight, the magazine release was way too tight, the magazine well is too tight, the aluminum doesn't appear to be anodized under the duracoat which means once you get under the duracandy shell there's a nice soft 6061 aluminum center. I'm surprised the lower is as "functional" as it is.
Hell, even the high edge wear is reportedly "from the factory."
Screw Khalan. I'd never pay full price for one of these turds.

Yesterday I received a donation from a CA-refugee. The TFR forum member, Sza sent me not one, but two Monster Man CA-Legal grips. I'm not sure what the folks at Monster Man were thinking but they decided to make the front of their grips flat with a pretty hard radius on the corners. Now I' don't have the meatiest hands on the block but boy are these guys uncomfortable. The plastics used in the Monster Man grip are pretty robust and I would like to note that the grip angle isn't horrible, just sub-optimal.
Before I started hacking away at the grip I found the "fin" wasn't comfortable but it seemed like a better alternative than a bullet button. After hacking on the grip I found that it was a bit better but I still need to radius the corners more to make the entire thing a little more enjoyable to hold. It's still not the best solution as a practical grip but it's more than perfect for my this comedy build.
