So, it's about time for the optic on my Keltec to go back to it's rightful owner. I need something to replace it. I was thinking about what the new optic should be (robust and hopefully without batteries) and what my price range is (cheap? ) and I remembered seeing this really strange Trijicon reddot-ish tube a few years back. I dug around teh interweb and found out that the item in mind was a Trijicon OEG - Occular Exclusion Gunsight. While Trijicon no longer makes these a company by the name of Armson still does.

They require no batteries and google reports that everyone feels they're rugged. They do have some draw backs, mainly that only the person who zeroes the gun can use it with any degree of accuracy. Both eyes need to be open in order to use the sight - and I suspect that mounting the rifle on the support side shoulder would render the sight useless.

Any proud OEG users out there who want to share with me their experience?

Bonus: I'm pretty sure I had an Armson barrel on my T98c back in the day.

Wow, I hope they didn't pay their graphic designer.

I haven't heard much about these things except that the whole thing is a sort of dated technology. For a range gun though, you might want to look into finding a used Trijicon Reflex II on arfcom's EE or something.

I have one mounted on my AR15 carbine. The M-16 mount mounts on the carry handle/ not flat top rail/
It is old technology. I think the guys on the SonTay raid used them back in '70. I've used this type scope about that long, also.
Target acquisition is very very quick. Takes some time to get used to.
Must keep both eyes open. Must have no major eyesight issues.
Trying to focus more then a split second on target results in red dot moving all around.
Thus, its good for snap shots at probably 50m or less.
Mine is zeroed at 25m. Took about 10 round to zero.
No batteries/ adjustment screws can strip. Read instructions.
No work at night. No light/ no red dot.
Mounting a light on rifle does not generally give enough light to "light" the red dot.
So, at night, you must use irons when using light.
Yes, OEG does have see thru opening on bottom of mount to see irons thru.
Hope that this helps.
